When you think about dietary Supplements you often think about pills, powder, or liquids, with an positive effect on our bodies. But that is not all ways the case.
So common is it
45% of the
Danish youth at the age of 11-24 are using dietary supplements. 20% of these
are daily users. The 11-14 year-old boys are the most frequent users, 55% are
taking supplements compared with 46% of girls in the same age group. Among boys
the intake of supplements decreases with age. 39% of the 15-24 year-old boys
use supplements compared with 44% of girls.
Increasing risk of death
A new Danish
study shows from countless experiments preformed in the world that vitamin
pills containing antioxidants in the form of vitamin A, E and betacarontene, on
the contrary are dangerous to us. These antioxidants increase the chances of
sudden death to the persons who eat this particular type of supplements, to those
who do not.
DTU fødevareinstituttet has estimatet that Danish vitamin pills are
safe.
Carina Torp Geugjes says that it is
not healthy for kids to eat any kind of supplement, unless it is to overcome a
disease.
If you are eat a healthy and balanced diet and follow the 8 dietary
guidelines then you will get plenty of vitamins and minerals. Different foods
contain different vitamins and minerals, so if you eat varied will you easily
get the vitamins and minerals needed.
